I have been going for short runs, for the past 2 nights... taking a break tonight as i tucked in on mum's bee hoon, brocoli, fish and chicken nuggets at... 11pm???
Anyway, the most difficult part of the run is... the run. It starts off quite well, bright, springly, wide steps for the first 200m or so, full of swing and mood as you know that yesterday's fried chicken and french fries are burning up instead of adding to your waistline/thigh/underarm/any other part of the body...
And then it kicks in.
Your breaths are deeper, and then more frequent. Your legs seem to weigh like lead, and your steps become smaller. You try to look for other kinds of motivation to keep running; up in the sky, down on the path, straight ahead at that 17th lamp post nearest to you... Every step you take, you wanna stop and take a rest. Or you just wanna give it up and go back to the comfort of the telly and the couch. And this goes on for the next 800m or so... You try to stop intermittently to catch your breath because you feel that your lungs are going to explode any moment from your inhalation...
And then, that feeling just vanishes; that's probably what one calls the body's accomodation to adverse change in conditions. You just keep going on, and you feel like you can carry on for another 10km or so. Slowly, but steadily, you go past the lamp posts, the trees, the traffic lights until you feel that enough is enough.
The extraordinary part (for me at least) comes in. Cooling down. My jogs normally last between 45 mins to one hour - 30 mins for actual jogging and the rest for cooling down. My attire, which would be half drenched after the actual running, will be fully drenched after cooling down, simply because I'm extreme at sweating. A little walking can get my sweat glands kicking in... and particulary last night, after my jog, I can literally feel them working overtime for 20 mins after my jog; the sweat was not in beads, but it literally covered every inch and area of my exposed skin. Even hanging out in the corridor outside my house bare bodied helped little. BUT, though it feels quite irritating to the skin, to be covered in sweat, it can be very therapeutic too; you feel like you are being purged of toxin through sweating. So more jogs for me; next scheduled one will bbe within the next 2 days...
I have always blog-surfed, those that are listed as links in my blog and those that are in My Favourites. Earlier on in the week, I was at Mr. Miyagi when I came across this entry. The name Janice Wong sounds familiar, and reading through, I realised she was the journalist in the now-defunct Streats who had her own column. She has recently stopped being a journalist, but a few of her nice writings can be found in her website. For a start, this and this are nice. Her articles are quite a nice read.
While on the bus ride home last night, I bumped into this Primary School friend, Shunfu. We had a nice conversation; about his current IA and some other stuff... felt nice to see someone you haven seen for a long time, and knowing that you can still be recognised...
Gotta go wash up now; got hit by a runaway "stink bomb" dropping from some bird outside Swissotel... Darn it....
Signing off............ i dont wanna become a FINANCIAL PLANNER/ADVISOR........
