Watched Memoirs of a Geisha with Dear on Tuesday morning. Nice show, and the lovely young actress who portrayed the young Chiyo stole the stage for the earlier part of the movie. The smile and the eyes - probably will become even better-looking than Ziyi Zhang (weird right? Imagine Yun-Fatt Chow. 'Clouds turn smelly.' Eeks.). Not to discredit her, but Ziyi, Gong Li /Li Gong and Michelle Yeoh were great; the performances from the cast were great all-round as well. Of course, an adaptation runs the risk of a sketchy plot that the original literature otherwise offers, and the development of the characters suffered, even though the movie was running at a premium of 2.5 hours. The Chairman, who had been fighting his conscience against indebtedness towards Nobu not to express his fondness for Sayuri, abruptly turns around and decided to follow where his heart would lead him. And AP said that there's sort of this epilogue that wasn't included in the movie. --> All these making the book into a must-read for those who liked the movie.
For the first time in donkey years, I gambled. Stood in for one of the players in the Dai Dee game; ended up losing $6 in less than 10 rounds. Wager was 10 cents per card. Once again, my no-luck-against-gains-through-the-easy-way-out theory is reinforced. Except for the occasional 4D and Toto, I give up on wager gambling. Speaking of Toto, my mom just told me about the annual special Hongbao Prize Money for Toto. MAYBE I should buy $2 Quickpick just to "buy a piece of hope", hor?
