The Beginning is the End is the Beginning

On 10th July 2006...

0000: Online, usual MSN + surfing...

And so we talked all night about the rest of our lives
Where we're gonna be when we turn 25
I keep thinking times will never change
Keep on thinking things will always be the same
But when we leave this year we won't be coming back
No more hanging out cause we're on a different track
And if you got something that you need to say
You better say it right now cause you don't have another day
Cause we're moving on and we can't slow down
These memories are playing like a film without sound
And I keep thinking of that night in June
I didn't know much of love
But it came too soon
And there was me and you
And then we got real cool
Stay at home talking on the telephone with me
We'd get so excited, we'd get so scared
Laughing at our selves thinking life's not fair
And this is how it feels...

0200: WC Final - but not really paying attention, except when the 2 goals were scored.

0300: Start of second half, offline, planted myself on sofa.

0302: Fell asleep...

0350: Woke up to find out that it was a draw at the end of normal time...

0500: Woke up again to find out that Italy had become WC champs...

0600: Woke up AGAIN, Mum's nagging got me up and running.

0700: Preparing to go out and take bus - when Mum told me I could drive. Good, because I could save a potential peak-hour cab fare; Bad because that means I would have a lil' too much time before 830am.

0715: Left the house.

0740: Reached Holland, went to the coffeeshop for a tea. Caught the highlights of the final, including the shootout + the headbutt.

0830: Walked to the shop; not opened. Starting to feel frantic. Received Dawn's SMS. Double worry.

0845: Finally, the shop opened its doors. Headed for UCC.

0905: Met ZW outside UCC. Passed him my gown. Parked the lorry. Stormed in UCC with two bouquets in tow. Headed for Theatre. Found my gown. Looked for Vernice; got the extra tic from her and passed it to Dawn.

0920: Finally settled down to robing. Gotten a nice prezzie from Di, my only one - a wooden block with 'R' painted on it. Nice lady helped me out with my hood and gown, with a speed I could only admire.

0940: Family reached in a cab amidst pouring rain. Told my parents to proceed into the hall, passed my stuff to my siblings and pointed them to the small room - but they ended up being refused entry into the room and had to sit in the café instead.

0945: Went into the hall. Sat down. Took off mortarboard cos the head's starting to spin. The beginning of the day's photoshoot.

1000: The commencement of our Commencement. Alumnus speech, scroll presentation, according to type of degree-department-class of degree-alphabetical order. Very soon, my turn came. Took the time to savour my moment; strolled to the centre of the stage, and strolled out - my moon-walking or Crouch/robot walk though.

1040: Back to seat. Remembered that we had a photoshoot to do after the ceremony. Start of the Message: meet outside courtyard later for the photoshoot. Hopefully, there would be enough time to hang around with family, and yet still ample time left for the class to take group photos...

1100???: Valedictorian speech by Mr Chan. Lucky it's someone from EL, or else, this part of the ceremony will hold less meaning. At least we gotta hear whether he mentioned us in his speech. Standing ovation from EL Hons.

1130: Balloons galore! End of ceremony, rush rush begins! Went out of the hall, saw SW and CH ppl starting to take class photos already on the spiral staircase. Was it a wrong decision?

1135: Brought everyone to the reception for makan. A 'wet' day had begun.

1145: Time to gather! Hmmmm, like not all here yet... Wait...

1148: and wait...

1150: Phototaking started, though not everyone might be around. Nonetheless, the weather was cool, the mood was joyous, and the day was going on fine, I presumed...

1200: Time for a family photo; thanks for Wei-tin for taking the photos. Sent family off; finally got the chance to take photos with everyone else. So glad that Ms. Chin and QZ were around, as well as Galvin's gf, Nala's friend and Philina's mom - they were the unsung heroes of the day.

1230: Started another round of SMSes - explained for the constant image of me clutching on my handphone during photos. Had to constantly delete my Sent Messages because of the flooded Inbox. Replies came in, some yays, alot of nays. Photoshoot in Town in danger of being left in tatters. Meanwhile, Photoshoot @ AS5 seemed to not to be happening - more people left, and it was approaching lunch hour; the office would be closed from 1300-1400. Everyone else decided on lunch first before going to the department. Managed to catch Chengrong for a photo. Took off gown after 3 hours. Onset of spinning head.
1300: Drenched and thirsty; kept everything, proceeded to Arts Canteen. Headed for Dept to check if there's any lecturers around. Took photo with Dr. Ooi in the reading room, and headed back to canteen. Resumed sending and reading received messages. 9 - number of ppl confirmed for Photoshoot in Town. Sandwich + iced tea for lunch. Spinning head subsiding.

1415: Headed to Dept office. Went into the office and the balcony for the first time. More photos. More lecturers.

1530: Left school, headed for City Hall.

1600: Went for a drink at O'Briens. Proceeded to Esplanade to meet up with the rest. Misinformed Evan about the attire - so paiseh.

1630: Last photoshoot got underway @ Esplanade Roof Terrace. Variety of shots - jumping shots, throwing mortarboard shots, pensive shots... Jenn came midway during the shoot; took a few photos with her as well.

1830: The day ended, and the evening had just begun. Everyone left; headed to library with Jenn...

So if we get the big jobs
And we make the big money
When we look back now
Will our jokes still be funny?
Will we still remember everything we learned in school?
Still be trying to break every single rule
Will little brainy Bobby be the stockbroker man?
Can we ever find a job that won't interfere with a tan?
I keep, I keep thinking that it's not goodbye
Keep on thinking it's a time to fly
And this is how it feels...

1930: Hungry - Meal @ Marina foodcourt, Minced meat noodles + iced oolong + kopi siu-dai.

2030: Window shopping.

2130: Headed for Harry's; it's suffering from Post-WC + Smoking Ban - most people preferred sitting outside. Had a ice-cold Tiger while Jenn had red wine.

2330: Time to call it a day. Took bus to Orchard, changed to 174. Nodded off after Coronation Plaza.

11th July 2006, 0100: Reached home, checked online for photos.

11th July 2006, 0500: Showered, ZZzzzzzzzzzzzz.......

-------------------------------------------------

It's amazing how the day went by. Even more amazing that the photos managed to keep me awake till early morning, despite sleeping for 2 hours the night before.

Sad though, at how fast it flew by.

Can they arrange for us to Commence again?

Will we think about tomorrow like we think about now?
Can we survive it out there?
Can we make it somehow?
I guess I thought that this would never end
And suddenly it's like we're women and men
Will the past be a shadow that will follow us 'round?
Will these memories fade when I leave this town
I keep, I keep thinking that it's not goodbye
Keep on thinking it's a time to fly

Signing off.................. Graduation, Friends Forever and Ever...............
