One month after I had been back from Indonesia...

Obtained from here (Click to enlarge)

... another earthquake, plus a tsunami, struck Java yesterday afternoon.

Wasn't in Java during the trip (except for a brief transit in the captial), but I thought the extent of damage was scary enough...

... until I did a search on the
USGS Earthquake Hazards Program website:

Look at the number of times an earthquake has happened since the major one occured (the one measuring 7.7 on Richter Scale) in the screenshot above...

Earthquakes have been striking the area on the average of one per hour for the past 24 hours! (Or are they aftershocks? The magnitudes suggest otherwise...)

The reports on damage, as far as I've seen on TV, are concentrated on the damage caused by the local tsunami. The extent of damage that the actual earthquakes had caused have not fully transpired to the outside world yet. If the casualties affected by the tsunami numbered in the hundreds, it's frightening to even think about what the earthquakes themselves had done...

Signing off............... We can only pray for them................
