I think, even one's social circle can be intricately complex and, for the lack of a better word, it serves up surprises when you least expect it.
Alpha and Beta could have known each other 5 years ago, 3 years ago, 2 years ago, or even a few weeks ago, but the ultimo e soltanto controller of the dice of Fate chose to throw the cubes at her will, and make a mockery out of all under her control...
It's weird how the weakest/faintest of network links could be re-linked via some common activity.
One can't help but stare in awe.
